Vonones I 16-17 AD No known coins
Description
Vonones (BNP [1]) was a son of Phraates IV who had given him over to the Romans as a royal hostage around 10 BC. Vonones was sent by Rome to succeed Orodes III, but was soon challenged by Artabanus (AD ca. 10-38) against whom he was initially successful. Eventually Vonones was forced to flee to Armenia where he sought to succeed Erato. He soon fled Armenia under pressure from Artabanus, ending up in Pompeiopolis (Cilicia) where he was first detained, then killed shortly after in an attempted escape. Vonones is not known to have struck coins in Armenia.
