Mithradates of Iberia 36-38, 42-51 AD No known coins

Description

Mithradates (BNP [20]) was the homonymous son of the king of Iberia. He was placed on the throne of Armenia by Tiberius, but was recalled by Caligula who imprisoned him. He was reinstated by Claudius, probably about the time Claudius returned Antiochus IV Epiphanes to the throne of Commagene (see below). Mithradates's reign was challenged in AD 36 by a second son of Artabanus, Orodes (BNP [4]) and Demonax (AD 38-42), a Parthian satrap. In AD 51 Mithradates was eliminated by his nephew Radamistus (BNPS 98) who reigned off and on until AD 54. No coins are known for any of these contenders.
