Philopappus 72 AD (Kov 287)

Description

Gaius Julius Antiochus Epiphanes Philopappus (BNP Julius [II 12]) was the son of Epiphanes and a Roman lady (Braund 1984, 178 n. 79). He was never actually king of Commagene, although a coin was struck for him with the title "Basileus" in Selinus (Cilicia). He lived in Athens where he held the title of archon. During the reign of Trajan (98-117) he became a Roman senator, and in AD 109 was appointed consul suffectus.
