Notes

This coin is more than a nicely rendered bronze: it is Maximinus Daia’s pictorial policy statement. It proclaims a helmeted, conquering Caesar, endorsed by the Unconquered Sun, ready to roll eastwards in a blaze of pagan rectitude—exactly the posture he adopted when he tried (and failed) to cow Christian Armenia in late 312 AD.
