Reference Description

Hovhannes Zardaryan (1918-1992) is an Armenian painter, People’s Artist of the Soviet Armenia.
He was born in Kars, Western Armenia. He studied at the Tiflis Fine Arts Academy, later in the Yerevan Fine Arts and Industry College, and in 1937-1941 at the Leningrad Fine Arts Academy.
Zardaryan's works are versatile and varied by content.
The historic portraits of this artist ("The Musicologist Komitas", "The First Path") are strikingly patriotic. His works constituting symbolism and allegory ("Spring" and "Aspiration", among them) are expressing the idea of national revival and belief in the future. The series of paintings and graphic works under the title "Exodus" is one of the best examples that realism may come in with abstract solutions.
Zardaryan's works have been repeatedly shown at prestigious international exhibitions. These are maintained at the National Gallery of Armenia, the Tretyakov State Gallery in Moscow, in other famous museums and private collections.
