Reference Description

The field of the Sun Carpet is decorated with a row of cross-shaped medallions. The central radiating image is distinguished from the octagonal medallions made of the floral ornaments symbolizing the worship of the sun. The dark background makes patterns of the birds and flowers brighter and more vivid. A rich selection of small ornaments originating from one another and a deep, saturated color structure characterize this carpet.
The gorgeous patterns of decoration of the carpet point to the inexhaustible imagination of the carpet maker.
The Sun Carpet woven in 18-19th centuries in Artsakh region is kept in the History Museum of Armenia (HMA collection № 9952).

Obverse: the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia and an ornament of Floral-Cross Carpet, 15th century, Vaspurakan region.
