Notes

British Statesman, lawyer, historian. He was a member of British parliament several times and held important positions in various British governments, served as an ambassador to the United States.
James Bryce is one of the prominent figures of Armenophil movement in the Great Britain. In 1876 he established and headed "Anglo-Armenian Society" and as its secretary traveled to Caucasus and Armenia, outlining his impressions in the book "Transcaucasia and Ararat" (1877).
Lord Bryce was one of those first to raise his voice of protest against the policy of extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. During the Armenian Genocide he made a significant contribution in establishment of British-Armenian Red Cross and Refugee Fund.
The collection of documents "Treatment of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, 1915-1916", co-authored by James Bryce and Arnold Toynbee and published in London in 1916, is one of the most important primary sources for Armenian Genocide studies.
