This “Pomegranate” gold collector coin, has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia, continues the thematic series of coins dedicated to Armenian Flora and Fauna.
Pomegranate is the largest berry. In Armenia, it is cultivated in Syunik and Tavoush provinces.
Pomegranate symbolizes fertility, abundance, generosity. The “crown” on top symbolizes power, and many seeds in chambers - the planets and stars. Pomegranate has been broadly used in Armenian architecture, applied art and miniature. Images of pomegranate and grape sequencing each other decorate cornices and ledges of Armenian churches.
