Reference Description

The Eagle Carpet is known also as Jraberd – the name that comes from the name of the village in Artsakh, which is considered as one of the famous carpet-weaving centers.
The central large medallion is cross-shaped and interlaced with the other patterns by oblique bands. The upper and lower parts of the carpet are decorated with wide arches that are constructed from the hooked shoots and end in eagle heads. As a supplementary ornamental band there comes a row of colorful curved tongues. Inside the arches are semi-medallions with cross-shaped images.
In terms of its compositional features, this carpet design shows that its primary influence comes from cross-stones.
The Eagle Carpet woven in late 19th century in Artsakh is kept in the History Museum of Armenia (HMA collection № 9023).

Obverse: the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia and an ornament of Floral-Cross Carpet, 15th century, Vaspurakan region.
Reverse: the Jraberd Eagle Carpet, the late 19th century, Artsakh region.
