The gold commemorative coin with nominal value of 10000 drams issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia is dedicated to the 100-th anniversary of Arshile Gorky.
Armenian-born American artist Arshile Gorky (Vostanik Adoyan) was born on April 15, 1904, in Khorgom village of Hayots Dzor district of Van province.
In 1926 he graduated from the New York Central Art School and taught there for five years. In 1930-s paintings by Gorky brought world fame to him.
The paintings by Gorky are in the best USA art galleries. They have been exhibited in Yerevan, Moscow, Paris, San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York and elsewhere.
Arshile Gorky takes up a central place in the world modern art.
