Notes

RUBEN ZARDARYAN (1874-1915) is a prominent Armenian writer, editor, social and political activist, publicist. He received education in Kharberd and served as a teacher in the Kharberd National Central School. In 1909, Zardaryan founded the daily, The Fighting for Freedom. He collaborated with the Armenian newspapers Tsaghik, Masis, Eastern Press in Constantinople. Zardaryan wrote poems, novels, tales, legends articles on history and criticism of literature, translated selected works of world literature.
A victim of the Armenian Genocide in 1915: martyred during deportation.
