Arkathias I after c. 150 BC (Kov 22-23)
Description
This Arkathias is likely the eponymos founder of Arkathiokerta (Karkathiokerta), the capital of Sophene from this time onward. It is on this site that the coins of Arkathias I and his successor Mithradates I are said to be found. In the absence of any historical verification one may conjecturally identify Arkathias and his successor Mithradates as satraps of Mithradates V Euergetes of Pontus ( ca. 150-119 BC). The coins of Arkathias are of two denominations, four and two chalkoi, both with the reverse type of Nike holding a wreath.
