Tigranes III 20-8 BC (Kov 172-174)
Description
Tigranes III (BNP [4]) was the grandson of Tigranes the Great and brother of Artaxias II, whom he replaced on the latter's death. Tigranes was placed on the throne by Augustus's stepson, the future emperor Tiberius. Rome controlled Armenia until Tigranes's death in 8 BC. The coins of Tigranes III are only of bronze and continue the standard four and two chalkoi pieces of the previous reigns from the mint of Artaxata.
