Artavasdes III 5-2 BC (Kov 177)
Description
Artavasdes (BNP [3]) was the brother of Artaxias II and Tigranes III and the youngest son of Artavasdes II. He was sent by Augustus to replace his nephew Tigranes IV, but after a short reign he was overthrown and expelled by the latter. Artavasdes's coinage is known only from a single issue, a silver drachm dated year 3. There is not absolute agreement on the attribution of this coin, some suggesting it should be assigned to Artavasdes IV (RPC 1 p. 570)
