Philaretos Brachamios was a Byzantine general of Armenian descent who became a key figure in the Byzantine Empire's military efforts in the late 11th century. Following the disastrous Battle of Manzikert in 1071, Philaretos maintained control over significant territories in Cilicia, Armenia, and Syria, acting as a semi-autonomous warlord. His strategic acumen and military prowess allowed him to command the eastern regiments effectively, reflected in his high-ranking titles of protokouropalates and domestikos of the scholai of the East.

This seal, dating from the 1070s to 1080s, highlights Philaretos's authority and position within the Byzantine military hierarchy. Although the seal is somewhat rough, it remains nearly very fine, offering insight into his influential role during this tumultuous period.
