Biography
Father Aristakes Azarian was a key figure in the early development of the Viennese Mkhitarian Congregation’s numismatic collection. His efforts were instrumental in establishing a foundation for Armenian numismatic studies within the congregation. Azarian played a mentor-like role to Fr. Ghevond (Clement) Sibilian, who later became a towering figure in the field. Sibilian himself acknowledged Azarian’s influence and guidance, crediting him for much of his expertise in numismatics.
Azarian initiated the creation of the congregation’s numismatic collection, which would later grow into a comprehensive repository of Armenian coins.
