This silver commemorative coin depicting Aries has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia under the International Program "The Signs of Zodiac".
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac associated with constellation bearing the same name. The ancient Babylonians, Egyptians, Persians and Greeks called this group of stars the Ram.
Greek mythology states that Athamus's son Phrixus and daughter Helle, abused by their stepmother, were rescued by a ram with a golden fleece. When the ram brought Phrixus to his destination, he sacrificed the magical ram to Zeus and in turn, Zeus placed the mighty ram among the stars for his heroic deed.
The astrological period called Aries takes the period from March 21 to April 20.
