This silver commemorate coin, issued by the Central Bank of Armenia, is dedicated to the 1600-th anniversary of Movses Khorenatsi’s birth.
Movses Khorenatsi (around 410) is the eminent representative of the medieval historiography and the father of the Armenian historiography. He was preliminary taught by Mesrop Mashtots and Sahak Partev and afterwards continued his education in Alexandria. He mastered in writing, oratory, grammar, did translations, wrote lays. His masterpiece is the “Armenian History” three-volume book with the each of the volumes describing a certain historical period. For many centuries “Armenian History” had been a textbook for the medieval Armenian historians.
