Notes
This medal commemorates Admiral Mikhail Petrovich Lazarev (Mikayel Lazaryan in Armenian; 1788-1851), a distinguished Russian naval officer, explorer, and admiral. Lazarev is best known for his significant contributions to Russian naval history, particularly his voyages of exploration in the Pacific and Antarctic Oceans. As the commander of the sloop "Mirny" during the First Russian Antarctic Expedition (1819-1821) led by Fabian Bellingshausen, Lazarev played a crucial role in the discovery of the Antarctic mainland. The medal serves as a tribute to Lazarev's enduring legacy and his impact on maritime exploration.
