Reference Description
The Medallion carpets are extraordinary in the art of Armenian carpet-weaving thanks to their great popularity, antique nature and coming in countless variations. Among the compositional patterns typical for the carpets ornamented in geometrical style one can see hooked, heraldic, polyhedral and other types of the medallions.
The artistic expression of this carpet includes blue and clay-colored palette. The main ornaments are the central medallions encircled in the cross-shaped chain, which are added with a pair of medallions from above and below. The edge of the carpet is notable for the colorful shades of the star-ornamented images.
The Medallion Carpet woven in the 19th century in Tavush region is kept in the History Museum of Armenia (HMA collection № 11).
