Notes
Vardan Mamikonian (388/391-451) was an Armenian Sparapet (supreme commander) who led the national resistance against the Persian Sassanid Empire. His efforts to unify Armenian forces and secure fortresses culminated in the Battle of Avarayr on May 26, 451, where he died a hero and was later canonized as the "Holy Martyr of the Homeland." His legacy is immortalized in various forms of art and religious architecture, as well as in the Order of Vardan Mamikonian, established in both the First and Third Republics of Armenia. This coin commemorates his enduring impact on Armenian history and culture.
