56 - Wide-Nosed Duck - 100 dram 2007

Reference Description

This silver commemorative coin depicting Wide-nosed Duck has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia under the International Program "Wild World of Caucasus". The Program includes animals that are protected under the Red Book of Armenia.
Presently Wide-nosed Duck can be seen very rarely in Armenia, mainly in the lake Sevan environs. During the last years some 500-1500 species have been noticed at the time of the birds' emigration.
Disappearance of the Wide-nosed Duck's nests is conditioned by a decrease in water level of the lake Sevan, its freezing over the winter-time and scarcity of feed.
Hunting for this bird within Armenia is prohibited. Its protection is organized in the "Sevan" National Park.
Designed by Roussana and Andrzey Nowakowscy.
Minted in the Mint of Poland.
