Notes
Aurora was born in the village of Chemesh-Gedzak, Western Armenia in 1901. Surviving by chance during the Armenian Genocide she settled in the USA where she told about her experience. Those stories were published in 1918 under the title "Ravished Armenia" and published in English in 1918. In the same year by the order of the American Committee for Relief in the Near East and with the efforts of director Oscar Apfel and producer Selig the film "Ravished Armenia" was shot in California. It was a silent film based on Arshalouys Mardiganian's memoirs. In the film, Arshalouys (Aurora) Mardiganian, herself, played the leading role. The entire revenue of the film, 30 million American dollars, was provided for humanitarian assistance of thousand Armenian orphans.
