Notes

St. Sargis the Commander is celebrated as a saint in Armenian culture, known for his martyrdom in defense of the Christian faith. His devotion and bravery have earned him widespread reverence, leading to the construction of many churches in his honor throughout Armenia. The coin commemorates the traditions associated with St. Sargis, such as the custom of placing plates of roasted and sweetened flour outdoors, hoping for his blessing symbolized by the imprint of his horse's hoof, which represents prosperity and happiness. This annual practice highlights his cultural significance, particularly on the last Saturday of February, celebrated as St. Sargis Fast.
