This silver commemorative coin with nominal value Dram 100 has been issued by the Central Bank of Armenia under the International Numismatic Program "International Polar Year 2007-2008".
Reverse of the coin depicts Fridtjof Nansen - one of the most distinguished polar explorers of the world. F. Nansen is widely popular for his humanitarian activity. In particular, he has rendered multifarious aid to the First World War Refugees ("Nansen Passport" as an example). In 1922 Nansen was honoured with the Nobel Prize for Peace.
The coin also depicts the logo of the "International Polar Year 2007-2008".
