This “Annunciation” silver collector coin has been issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia as part of the international coin program Gospel Scenes in Armenian Miniatures.
Annunciation means a good, joyous news that messages pregnancy of the Virgin Mary from Holy Spirit and the birth of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
The Gospel illustrations usually start with a scene of Annunciation which depicts Jesus Christ’s incarnation as the beginning of his mission on earth. The scene of Annunciation in Armenian miniatures portrays Gabriel the Archangel, God’s messenger, and the Blessed Virgin in the main. Holy Spirit is often depicted as a pigeon descending through a flash of light to Mary from heaven.
