Reference Description
This “Entry into Jerusalem” silver collector coin has been issued by the Central Bank of the Republic of Armenia as part of the international coin program Gospel Scenes in Armenian Miniatures.
A week before Easter Jesus Christ, accompanied with his disciples, made a solemn entry into Jerusalem. In Armenian miniatures this event portrays Jesus sitting on a donkey and approaching the town, with his right hand up for blessing. Behind are the followers while inhabitants of Jerusalem in front of him throw garments and branches on the road. This merriment of entry into Jerusalem coincides with commencement of springtime and awakening of nature. The Armenian Apostolic Church named this celebration Tsaghkazard (Palm Sunday).
The coin issued with colored inks. Designed by Haroutiun Samuelian. Minted in the Mint of Finland.
