Notes

Franz Werfel, Austrian writer and philanthropist, is one of the prominent figures of Austrian literature of the first part of the 20th century. He was always a supporter of the idea of changing the world through spiritual renewal of people and he fought against violence. Persecuted by the fascists he left Austria for France in 1938 and then moved to the USA.
In the rich and peculiar literary heritage of Werfel the famous novel "Forty Days of Musa Dagh" has its important place. It represents an excellent unity of the author's literary genius and personal beliefs. The novel that was translated into many languages demonstrates the 53-day long heroic struggle on Mount Musa, one of the Armenian people during the Genocide.
