Reference Description
Obverse: The medal features conjoined right-facing busts of Hovhannes and Hovakim Lazaryan, founders of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages in Moscow. Both figures are depicted in highly detailed military uniforms adorned with decorations. Surrounding the portrait, the inscription in Russian reads: "ОСНОВАТЕЛИ ГРАФЪ И IОАКИМ ЛАЗАРЕВИЧИ ЛАЗАРЕВЫ" ("Founders Count Hovhannes and Hovakim Lazaryan"), while the Armenian inscription states: "ՀԻՄՆԱԴԻՐՆԵՐ ԿՈՄՍ ՅՈՎՀԱՆՆԷՍ ԵՒ ՅՈՎԱԿԻՄ ԵՂԻԱՋԱՐԵԱՆՔ ԼԱՋԱՐԵԱՆՑ", translating to the same. Below the portraits, the engraver’s mark "CAQUE F." is visible.
Reverse: Depicted at the center is a detailed view of the Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages in Moscow, showing the architectural structure of the educational institution. Above, the Russian inscription reads: "ЛАЗАРЕВСКIЙ ИНСТИТУТЪ ВОСТОЧНЫХЪ ЯЗЫКОВЪ. МОСКВА. 1815." ("Lazarev Institute of Oriental Languages. Moscow. 1815."), while the Armenian counterpart states: "ԼԱՋԱՐԵԱՆՑ ՃԵՄԱՐԱՆ ԱՐԵՒԵԼԵԱՆ ԼԵԶՈՒԱՅ ԻՄՈՍԿՈՒԱՅ" with the same meaning. At the bottom, an inscription in both Russian and Armenian acknowledges academic merit, with the Russian text stating: "ЗА БЛАГОНРАВIЕ И УСПЂХИ." ("For Good Conduct and Success"), and the Armenian reading: "ԻՍԱԿՍ ՎԱՐՈՒՑ ԴԱՐԵԱՑ ԵՒ ՅԱՌԱՋԱԴԻՄՈՒԹԵԱՆ", conveying a similar message. The engraver’s mark "CAQUE F." is also present at the bottom.
